AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
There was little change in the market this week with most market indicators showing only minor adjustments. What’s most notable each week is that for the general Chinese best fleece quality (16.5 to 21.5 micron), the Sydney market continues to outperform similar types offered in Melbourne. No doubt it’s a supply and demand scenario but growers and brokers with an option, should consider offering these bales in Sydney for a small price advantage. The Melbourne catalogue has twice the volume so it should not be unexpected to see the large volume of standard types attract a little more attention in the Sydney sale room.

Forecast
Despite the general gloomy market conditions, we’re still able to shift around AUD$45,000,000 worth of wool every week at the auctions in Melbourne, Sydney and Fremantle. It seems that the current market is able to consume a little under 40,000 bales each week without much impact on price.
