The first days selling presented the market with some real challenges this week as all micron categories finished the day in negative territory. Not even the weaker currency would help arrest the slide. Chinese indent buyers still continue to dominate the sale room, as greasy traders tried to keep pace. The talk of slow and steady business being done, seemed to be a myth until day 2 when the market tone changed and competition was much more animated assisting the market to finish the day fully firm except for 19.5 micron which was the only micron that finished in positive territory for the day. Certified wool provided growers with some hope as both Australian and NZ stored certified wool was in very keen demand forcing a separation in the market between mulesed and non-mulesed wool. A small resurgence from European interests also provided much needed competition for the Chinese buyers, whilst competition from India and Japan remains stagnant.

Forecast

38,000 bales on offer nationally next week, with a day out for the Melbourne Cup, a horse race that stops the Nation on Tuesday, pushing selling days to W/T next week. Not much business has been concluded, so we expect another challenging week as the market tries to maintain composure. An excellent offering next week of certified wool which we hope will continue to attract keen competition.
