AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT

Comment

The most significant improvement in the market this week came via increased competition from Italian interests on the best wools 18.0 micron and finer. In commercial quantities, the most important microns are 16.0 to 18.0 micron, and we had these wools up to 2.6% dearer over the week. It was encouraging to see stronger competition on these wools. It was also noted that Chinese interests were also willing to pay more for the ‘European type’ with better length and strength specification. No doubt that they have been good value compared to the more average wools and, as we move towards Christmas, the main volume has already been sold. Ultrafine wools, 13.5 micron and finer, were again keenly sought after.

Forecast

Quantities for sale remain tight and there is definite pressure from buyers chasing the better types. Low VM, well prepared fleece lines with staple length around 75 to 90 mm and 40 nkt+ are those most keenly sought after and selling above grower expectations.
